1. Kanoa
There has and never will be any kind of restrictions to the prowess, smoothness, and timelessness for Kanoa and for his music. In the lands of Hawaiian and Reggae, Kanoa’s fresh vibe and take on the R&B Soul genre with RETROFIT is a cut away from the typical expectation of a Hawaii musician.
This funky EP is another love child from Maui’s own son. Highly sought after and dedicating his life entirely to music and production, Kanoa continues to be boundless. After all, this is his core and thus he is so named. Anyone who is familiar with Kanoa knows that he comes from the piko of Hawaiian music, ‘aha himeni, reggae, rock, metal, and yes even country.
Whilst his weekly performances cover the island of Maui from Kahului, Honokohau, and of course Kihei, Kanoa has worked with and produced the likes of The Grouch, Allen Stone, MGK, Al B, Jo Koy, Murs, Pat Simmons Doobie Brothers, Ozomatli, Pepper, DRI, Brother Ali, and the late – very great legendary Willie K.
Travel is always fun and exciting for the humble Hawaiian. However, making music, producing, performing, on his moku one hānau of MauinuiaKama is kuleana. He is the first person I wanna see when we visit Maui. The typical “wya” is always met with several options.
In a time when no one has time for anything, Kanoa will always make room for chill conversation as is this EP. Each story is finely lined with raw vocals that’s perfect for a the club or a drive around the islands. I love that even in 2023 we are gifted with the truth of a story from beginning to end in each song. Retrofit is “All About It”. It’s got that “maybe kinda love” vibe and who could deny the classic sound of the talk box – You got Me Wrong!
RETROFIT is IT.

My name is “Mondokane”. I am a singer, songwriter, recording artist, and entertainer based out of Maui. Iʻve been an entertainer in the music industry for over 30 years. I have three albums out currently and multiple songs on the radio stations throughout Hawaii.
