“I’m a Mana‘o Radio DJ because I get to play DJ without having to sell anything.”
Pistol Pete was bombarded with all kinds of music from various angles from a very young age, and intrigued by radio starting in the ’70s. He ended up studying the production side of things in college, but didn’t work in radio until 20 years later, here on Maui. However, he found the confines of commercial radio to be rather annoying, so one day he asked Michael McCartney how he could become a sub DJ at Mana’o Radio because he knew they got to craft their own playlists. Lo and behold, he was welcomed to the fold. Hey, that rhymed!
