I am so lucky to be from one of the most culturally and musically rich countries in the world – Trinidad & Tobago, with a population of just over 1 million that have invented multiple musical instruments genres, with a national festival so popular that it has spread across the globe to over 100 different cities and countries. I grew up in many of these cultures, singing Calypso and Parang, playing Steelpan and more. My grandfather was a well-known composer and cultural organizer and advocate and even had his own radio show decades ago, so I guess it’s in my blood! I love sharing music and culture. I also love supporting the artistes that create good music – lyrically, rhythmically and/or melodically intricate and/or artistic, especially in these current times when much mainstream music is so cheap, empty and monotonous.
